Teaching

Overview of courses and learning activities in geotechnical engineering.

Teaching activities support education in geotechnical engineering and related areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Selected courses

Course Title Level Brief description
CIVE 311 Geotechnical Mechanics Undergraduate Introduction to the mechanical behaviour of soils and the fundamentals of geotechnical engineering.
CIVE 416 Geotechnical Engineering Undergraduate Course on geotechnical engineering practice, including foundations, earth-retaining structures, and slope stability.
Other courses Advanced topics in geotechnical engineering Undergraduate and graduate Courses that address applications of soil mechanics, soil structure interaction, and numerical modeling in geomechanics.

Professional training and short courses

In addition to for-credit university courses, short courses can be offered upon request for groups of practicing engineers and graduate students.

  • Geotechnical finite element analysis using commercial software packages (PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience RS2).
  • Geotechnical design using geosynthetics.
